Do you remember Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? How about Roxanne? Or All Of Me? These movies were the laugh track of my teens.

Lately, I’ve taken up watching Murders in the Building, so when I saw that Steve Martin made a documentary, I had to see it.

In it, Steve said, “You can define a personality for yourself and be that on stage.”

When Steve is a "wild and crazy guy,” he is being Stage-Steve. Home-Steve is a different guy (I assume, I hope).

Adopting a different personality works for actors, comedians, and speakers, and it can work for you too! Defining a personality is another engagement hack!

When you are feeling shy, a bit like an imposter, or just not feeling it today, you can define a personality that fits the environment, need, challenge, or vibe.

You can define a personality for yourself and be that while:

• connecting people.

• chatting up leaders.

• moderating a panel.

• welcoming members.

• introducing a speaker.

• kicking off a discussion.
