Every Administrative Task is An Opportunity to Engage
Imagine that you are behind an event registration table. There is a wall of people coming at you all wanting their badge, program, and bag. Your number one job is to make sure the correct badges go to the right attendees, along with all the other materials, very quickly—right?
Yes, and…behind every administrative act is an opportunity to engage. Think of how many stressed-out, frazzled registration staff you’ve seen grimly working their way through the line. Do those behaviors improve engagement at all? Not so much.
Now think about the person who is doing the same work, but with a big smile on their face, making eye contact with the attendees they are handing materials to. They’ve created an opportunity to engage while still doing the administrative work.
Every time you have a member-facing administrative task, consider how you can add an element of engagement.
You might add:
Warm welcomes
Empathy
Fun
Energy
Light-heartedness
Or other vibes depending on the situation.
Engaging members is more than making sure they get value and have the facts. It’s about experience, too. You can improve every administrative task by considering the member experience.
So what is on your to-do list? How can you add a zip of engagement?
